Anyone want a $10,000+ ugly, rusty chassis? [reposting for day crowd]

Okay, to be fair, this is apparently an extremely rare chassis. It is the chassis of a 1913 Henderson Model 44 Roadster, a car of which only six are known to survive today. If this chassis is legit, it’ll be the seventh. The bodywork is obviously long gone, and it’s anyone’s guess what happened to it, but it looks like at least all the mechanical parts are there.

It’s scheduled to be auctioned off on April 18 with a starting bid of $10,000. So you’d be paying at least that much for a chassis that needs some work, PLUS you’d still have to have bodywork fabricated for it. Better make friends with the owners of the other six, I guess... If you did go to all that work, though, it’d look something like this:

Well, it looks like there’s also some controversy as to whether this is a legit Henderson chassis or just a cob bled-together chassis with a Henderson engine... It’s hard to tell, since the company only existed from 1912 to 1915 so information isn’t super easy to find.

Time to do the first reverse restomod. Modern body and interior on an old chassis and drivetrain. I wonder what bodies would match up?

Nah, I’ve already got a knackered clapped out chassis. I call it my body.

It’s forty year old, the panels are all blown out, the big end has gone, it coughs and sputters way more than it should.
